Colour is a promise: choosing a palette you can keep

A palette isn’t chosen on the day of the logo reveal. It’s chosen every time someone makes a slide at 11pm.

The real test of a brand palette is not the launch. It is the intern making a flyer, the sales lead building a deck at midnight, the partner designing a co-branded banner. If the palette is hard to use, it will be abused.

  • Limit yourself to one primary, one dark, one light and one accent.
  • Write down exactly where each colour is allowed.
  • Ship templates, not just guidelines.

Green, black and white can carry a whole brand if you are strict about where each one goes.
